Elliot's Fractional Distillation
A process in casual filmmaking for an unknown length of time. Discarding act of being precious. Embracing acceptance and speed of production.
Fractional Distillation is the process of separating a substance into its different parts.

BACKGROUND
This project has three purposes. I call them purposes because, unlike goals for example, they lack clear measurable outcomes. The ‘success’ of any product is not judged by whether it is 'achieved'. Instead these purposes form organisational starting points from which I work from. Practically, it also looks for a way to deal with my ongoing concerns about freelancing: how can I, as an emerging choreographer, continue to produce artistic work without the regular components of production (i.e. subsidies, rehearsal space, programmers, premieres, technicians etc.). Below are my three purposes for Elliot’s Fractional Distillation:
1. Maximise my creative time while minimising organisational work.
Administration is always needed but I wanted to create a project which could facilitate a choreographic and creative focus. To achieve this I needed to…
2. Embrace no-budget, low technical capacity filmmaking.
I do not own a professional camera. I don't have a camera-crew. Everything was edited with iMovie. I was also short on time, filming any one video couldn’t take more then a few hours.
3. Accelerate my output.
As a person whose creative processes are deeply rooted in research I often feel alarmed at a creative world increasingly lacking in time while demanding new and regular output. I haven’t given up my battle for more research time but I want to see how my creative processes can be truncated.
